Please share with us what you do and who your business helps
The Crafty Chica brand is all about promoting positivity through creativity. I share hundreds of craft tutorials, business and motivation tips, travel experiences, recipes and more. I love to incorporate my Latino culture whenever possible. In addition to the website, I design multiple product lines, author books, teach workshops and give speeches all supporting my site’s topics. |
How did you go from “idea” to an online business?
I took action. I pinpointed what I wanted to do, I found inspirational brands and researched the easiest, most affordable way to get rolling. From there I went through trial and error to build my crafty empire! I’ve always had a very hands-on approach to trying new strategies, and I keep an open mind. |
In your opinion, what is a hard-to-spot pitfall that is critical to avoid in entrepreneurship? |
People have a glorious vision in their head of the end result, which is awesome, I always have my end goal in mind. BUT, they want to skip everything in between to get there. They wait until they think someone can help them, or the perfect opportunity drops in their lap. Then time passes by and they are in the same spot. You have to be consistent and keep moving forward, no matter what! |
In your opinion, what was the #1 thing that helped you experience a breakthrough in business?
Being fearless. I built CraftyChica.com at night after work, after dinner, after my family went to bed. I never thought of it as a “little thing” I did. I made it look larger than life, I always made sure it had a wow factor and then I went after national press outlets, national manufacturers, national publishers. I noticed the signs when it was time to leave my day job. I took the chance to jump because I knew I had been weaving my safety net for years! |
What is one thing you’ve told yourself that kept you going during your darkest hour?
This too shall pass. Focus on the end goal. Whatever mistakes I made, I chalk it up to a lesson learned. Experience earned. All the smaller actions lead up to the main goal, one or two slip ups will not make everything explode. At least in most cases!
What’s your best advice for entrepreneurs who are frustrated and overwhelmed?
Prioritize your tasks and the time you are spending on them. See what you can move around to give you time to work on what matters. Invest in your business and hire a VA if needed. Create a to-do list every single day. Take one task at a time, don’t try to multitask everything. Know what you want out of an offered opportunity before you accept.
What are your favorite tools and resources that make your life easier and keep your business running smoothly?
First one: A good mindset. I stay positive and focused. For organizing, I keep it very simple. I use the “task” feature in my Gmail for my daily to-do. I keep a spreadsheet of everything due, and I build in buffer time to give me room. I keep my work area clean, I use Google Drive for all my files and folders. I listen to Spotify playlists while I work, like “Creativty Boost” and “Ambient” and “Cafe con Leche.” Music helps me enjoy the process of what I’m working on.
To conclude, what is one thing you would like to share with my audience to inspire them to go for new goals?
Start working on your goals today, empower yourself to keep things rolling. don’t expect help or praises from others. Do it because you know you are worth it and that your voice and ideas deserve to be heard. Make your mark on the world!
